LOVE
The great Catholic theologian St. Thomas Aquinas defines love as “the choice to will the good of the other.” Put differently, love is an action taken to obtain for individuals and/or groups of people, especially the disadvantaged, what they need to survive and thrive in life. Furthermore, love is a practice that, if done correctly, helps others reach their ultimate end, which is holiness and communion with God himself. According to Pope emeritus Benedict XVI, there are two different, but complementary, ways that we can walk the path of love. The US bishops call these the “Two Feet of Love in Action”: social justice and charitable works. The parish social ministry at St Anthony exists to help its parishioners become dynamic disciples by walking this path of love.
